- You are interested in reducing your insurance rates.
New Hampshire Defensive Driving Courses Reduce Points
In New Hampshire, all violations and driving infractions have a certain number of points given per incident. The number of demerit points is directly related to the seriousness of the driving offense. In any case, these points will appear on your driving record for three years from the date of the violation. The most common driving infractions and the associated points are:
- 2 Points - Failure to produce or show your driver's license to an officer
- 3 Points - Speeding 1 to 24 MPH over the speed limit
- 4 Points - Operating a vehicle without proof of insurance or financial responsibility
- 4 Points - Improper passing
- 6 Points - Road racing
- 6 Points - School bus violations
- 6 Points - Driving while intoxicated (DWI)
- 6 Points- Disobeying a officer of the law
However, if you take an approved New Hampshire defensive driving course, you can have part of all of the points removed.
New Hampshire Defensive Driving Course for DWI
In New Hampshire, you could lose your license because of a driving while intoxicated (DWI) conviction. If this is the case, you will be required by the court to complete one of the alcohol awareness training programs. It's important to remember, the fees for these courses can and will vary. In addition, the associated fees for these types of defensive driving courses can be costly.
Types of New Hampshire Defensive Driving Courses
Safe Drive Course
The safe driver course or driver improvement program is designed for people who have at least three demerit points on their driving record. Upon completion of the New Hampshire defensive driving course, your points will be reduced by a total of three points. Keep in mind, even though your point total will be reduced, the demerits can still appear on your driving record for up to three years. In some instances, the court may mandate you complete this course.
Driver Attitude Program
The Driver Attitude Program is designed to improve and maintain good driving behaviors and attitudes, which are key components to enhancing the safety of the road. You may be required to complete a driving attitude program before your driver's license is restored if you:
- Were ordered to take the course after your administrative hearing, or
- Had your New Hampshire driver's license revoked due to being certified as a habitual offender.
- Are mandated by the courts to complete the program.
Even though there are several defensive driving courses in the state of New Hampshire, only approved courses are accepted by the DMV or the court. More importantly, online driving courses are not accepted and the class must be completed in the state of New Hampshire.
