Ohio Driving Course Providers
In Ohio, individuals can opt for remedial courses obtained through certified driving traffic school. Similarly, they may complete coursework through a pre-approved online provider. Those attending an Ohio driving course in person gain access to certified instructors, and must be available throughout each course’s entirety. Within classroom environments, each course is completed on Saturdays—during evenings—and following work hours.
Meanwhile, online-accessed defensive driving courses are available for those seeking flexibility. Matching hours must be completed, however, but attendees may begin and pause courses whenever breaks are needed.
Those opting for online options may acquire dates through course providers. Applicants must complete coursework within six months, and those unable to finish by required dates will receive failing grades. Refunds are not available, and specific information may be accessed through separate course providers.
Defensive Driving Coursework Details
Each remedial driving school instruction course must be eight hours long, at minimum requirements, and as dictated through the Ohio BMV.
Each traffic course is separated into chapters spanned across various, vital, topics. Each topic teaches individuals about effective driving habits, safe driving methods, and the importance of responsibility behind the wheel.
Main topics accessed through defensive driving school include:
- Crash prevention concepts and traffic accident cost-magnitude.
- Vehicle crash factors.
- Laws and regulations pertinent to highway environments.
Each topic chapter finishes with required multiple-choice quizzes. Those taking the quizzes will be required to take a follow-up final exam, which combines pre-determined questions into a well-formatted test designed to test the applicant’s knowledge. Each question has been streamlined to stress course-obtained information. Individuals seeking additional information can contact their local Ohio traffic course provider; the following topics are covered:
- Course fees.
- Options for applicants failing the final exam.
- Course duration.
- Final exam requirements and restrictions.
Ohio Traffic School Benefits
The state of Ohio utilizes a point system for safety and maintenance of drivers. Driving history is reliant upon these points, and defensive driving courses grant the following amenities to Ohio drivers:
- Removal of two points from an individual’s driving record.
- Reduce, or remove, points added to driving record following a traffic violation or infraction.
- Ohio driver’s license reinstatement.
Those intending to reduce points, or to dismiss a received traffic ticket, must meet the following requirements to proceed:
- Non-completion of any defensive driving course within the previous 18 months (may vary from situation to situation).
- Non-participation with a commercial vehicles during obtainment of traffic ticket.
- Not cited multiple violations upon receiving a traffic ticket.
Those receiving a traffic ticket within the state of Ohio may contact their local court immediately. If applicable, amenities may be granted to individuals before completing coursework. Those eligible to take part in defensive driving courses may ask questions pertaining to ticket dismissal and point loss prevention. Where driving records are concerned, the local courthouse may supply relevant information. Those not receiving a notice—and those with traffic tickets not permitting coursework options—can similarly contact their local Ohio court when handling their case.
In several cases, individuals may receive auto insurance discounts when defensive driving coursework is completed. Applicants are urged to contact their insurance company and raise relevant questions BEFORE enrollment begins.
