Am I eligible to take this course?

If you were ordered by a judge to take an online Driver Improvement Clinic course, our certificate is most likely accepted. However, this is not a guarantee, so we recommend you request and obtain permission from the court handling your case.

I don’t have my ticket information. Can I still register?

You can register without it. But if you’re taking this course to receive safe driving points, the DMV requires a court document confirming you’re to be awarded those points, and it must be submitted to the clinic. Without it, points will not be awarded, no exceptions. Registering now doesn’t get you around this requirement. You’ll still need to get us that document before you finish the course.

What are the four course types?

Voluntary Safe Driving Points is for any licensed Virginia driver who wants to build up their points proactively. Virginia DMV Ordered is for drivers directed by the VA DMV to complete a clinic, typically after accumulating 12 or more demerit points. Court Referred Point Reduction is for drivers referred by a court specifically for demerit point reduction. Court Referred Fine Reduction is for drivers referred by a court specifically for fine reduction. You will select the right type when you enroll.

Who is eligible to take the course voluntarily?

Any licensed Virginia driver. You do not need a ticket, a court order, or a DMV notice to get started. You can enroll voluntarily at any time.

Can I take the course for reckless driving?

If your court has referred you for point reduction, yes, our court referred option satisfies that requirement. Reckless driving carries six demerit points in Virginia. Completing a voluntary course independently of any court order earns you the five safe driver points automatically, helping offset that impact. The underlying conviction remains on your record, but the point buffer helps.

Is the VA defensive driving course online or in-person?

Both options exist, but the online version is court approved and lets you study anywhere, anytime.

Do I have to start right away after I register for the online course?

No, when you choose to start and finish is up to you! You can start the course whenever you like, then log out and back in as often as you like. As long as you finish the course and submit your certificate by your court due date, you have nothing to worry about!
