Looking for a car that can outrun the cops? Here is what you are up against.

Without a doubt, the police here in the United States patrol the roads, highways and interstates with some vehicles that have some serious muscle, a bunch of horses under the hood. However, Chargers and Mustangs and Crown Vics aren’t really making anybody whip their head around to take a look… unless they are speeding of course!

In the United States, we rarely see a Corvette cruiser motoring down the road and seeing a cop driving a Viper is even more rare, but there are some countries that use supercars to patrol their roads. In fact, some of them are on par with the fanciest cars driven by the richest and most famous people in the world. Even more interesting is the fact that seeing such cruisers on the road is not uncommon. In some places, the police driving supercars is the norm.

While we North Americans may think that funding the police to such a degree is a waste of valuable monetary resources, in some countries, Dubai for example, supercars are a necessity. There is so much money in the small oil-rich country that a large portion of the population drives supercars. In order to police the roads, peace officers require wheels that can keep pace with the fastest street legal vehicles on the planet.

Another example is the Autobahn in Europe. Simple, a Ford Mustang just does not have the power, speed or handling to patrol such a place. Cars like Chargers and Crown Victorias just don’t have enough juice to keep up with the other cars on the Autobahn. Without police in supercars, it would be a free-for-all!

In order to keep a watchful eye on the highways and interstates in places where sports cars and supercars dominate the road, the following 10 cars have been put in service.

Lexus IS-F

In the United Kingdom there are well paved roads with well-funded drivers cruising them. BMW sports cars, Italian made Ferraris and Lamborghinis on the road are not nearly as uncommon as they are here in the U.S. As a result, many officers in the UK patrol the roads in the Lexus IS-F. With a top speed of 168 miles per hour, outrunning the IS-F requires another supercar.

The Humberside Police in Northern England use the IS-F to keep those people driving other supercars in check. It reaches 60 in 4.7 seconds. Reaching a top end of equal speed requires at least as much horsepower as the IS-F has in its 416 h.p. engine. While there are cars that can outrun it and some may look cooler on the road, there close to none that can absolutely dust it if the road has a few curves. The IS-F has incredible handling.

Ariel Atom

Of all the street legal cars on the planet, there may be none that are quicker than the Atom, the fastest car driven by the police in the United Kingdom. Make no mistake, it has an outrageous top-end speed at 168 miles per hour, but 2.5 seconds to reach 60 mph is terrifying. Interestingly though, it’s acceleration is not the most impressive feature of the Atom. That would be it’s design. With a shape tantamount to a Formula 1 car, it is only 11 feet long and it’s highest point is only 4 feet above the ground. This isn’t a go-cart on steroids. This is the Superman of go-carts. While there may be one or two supercars driven by police that are cooler, none of them look cooler than the Atom.

Spyker C8 Spyder

In Holland, police drive the fastest of the supercars that do not top 200 miles per hour. The Spyder is simply built for speed. While it reaches 60 in a pedestrian 4.5 seconds in relation to the Atom, the Spyder can top at 186 mph which means per hour, it can drive 20 miles farther than the Atom. It is a low profile supercar with a 400 hp V-8 engine that is designed to reach incredible speeds. At 13 and ¾ feet long, it is longer than most supercars, but considering that the Netherlands is relatively flat and the roads do not have a great deal of curves, it is perfect for cruising the highways and interstates.

Audi R8

The Germans outfit their police with the R8 GTR. This is the first of the supercars in the 200 mph plus — 202 — category that is used by police around the world. What’s more — with the exception of the Atom — this is the first of the supercars used by police that drop below the four second mark in the 0 – 60 mph dash and it is only two-tenths over doing it in 3 seconds. It is so low profile and the lines on it are so soft that the aerodynamics of it look like nothing else on the road, even among supercars. What is most significant about what is under the hood is the fact that the Audi R8 GTR police package comes equipped with a 620 horsepower V-10 engine, 102 more hp than the civilian package. That engine and that power, and it is only 14 and ½ feet long.

Lamborghini Huricán

Yes, there is an Italian policeman somewhere in Italy cruising the roads in a Lamborghini. The Gallardo is visually spectacular, even by Lamborghini standards, though it does not compare to the Huracán. Though the Lamborghini car manufacturer has given the Italian Police a number of cars over the years, the Huracán is far-and-away their most generous gift. The vehicle is worth over $300,000 American dollars. A seven speed dual clutch gears the 610 horsepower engine and pushes it to a top speed of 205 mph and reaches 60 in three seconds flat.

Ferrari FF

Two things Dubai isn’t short on are money and fast cars. Additionally, Dubai is flat with long, straight and well paved road. That adds up to lots, and lots of sports cars on the road and — on a per capita scale — a tremendous number of supercars. So, it’s no wonder that the Dubai Police department invested in a fleet of Ferraris. No, not Fiats, Ferraris. The FF can reach almost 210 miles per hour and 60 in 3.7 seconds. However, the most interesting part of the Dubai’s fleet of Ferraris is that it is driven exclusively by women. The means that it is the coolest supercar driven by police anywhere on the planet.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4

The Italian Police are a charity case that Lamborghini donates cars to. That´s why they drive a Gallardo and a Huracán and one other from yesteryear. The police in the United Arab Emirates by theirs — plural. And, that´s why they drive Aventadors. As if a fleet of Ferraris driven by — and only by — policewomen isn’t enough to impress anyone in the world, they have police officers cruising in a car that reaches 60 in under three seconds — 2.9 — and goes 50 miles farther in an hour that the UK´s Atom, 207 mph. If that´s not sick enough, each Aventador LP costs over ½ million dollars.

Aston Martin One-77

Aston Martin One-77

Who’d have thunk it? The United Arab Emirates — Dubai — again. Yea, the Aston Martin One-77 can´t do 60 in under three seconds, only 3.5, but it can reach an unheard of 220. Both of those facts are due to the V-12 engine under the hood. Most manufacturers, let alone people, have even ever heard of a V-12. However, that´s not what´s most impressive about the One-77. What is most stunning about the One-77 is the — dare I say fact — that it is the most beautiful supercar in the world. Somehow, there is just no other car in the world that is as aesthetically pleasing.

Brabus Rocket

It´s not just the German women that are ugly, it´s their supercars. The Brabus Rocket looks like a grocery-getter. It is so ugly that it couldn’t hold a candle to a Crown Vic. Actually, they look very similar. It is as if the Germans decided to make an olympic athlete out of a bag lady, but WOW, did they ever make an amazing athlete of a car. Another supercar with a V12, the Brabus Rocket has a Mercedes body yet can go from 0 – 60 mph in 3.2 second. Far more importantly, the old nag can reach an astounding 225 miles per hour.

Bugatti Veyron (UAE) – 2.5 seconds; 268 mph

0 – 60 Acceleration: 2.5 sec.

Top Speed: 268 mph

No need to mention which police force owns the Bugatti Veyron. The Veyron is literally the best of — and at — everything. It is the only other supercar that can accelerate as quickly as the Atom, 2.5 seconds. It is the fastest supercar by almost 50 miles per hour, 268 mph. Here is another way of thinking of it. The Bugatti Veyron goes 100 miles more in an hour than the Atom and IS-F. Not only is it the most gifted performing of all the world´s supercars owned by police, it is the only one that can hold a candle to the Aston Martin One-77.

The Bugatti Veyron is the fastest and coolest car driven by any police officer on Earth.
