If you have had the misfortune of receiving a handicapped parking ticket, you know how that can negatively affect your license points and even lead to an increase in your auto insurance rates. If you are looking for tips about how to fight traffic tickets to reduce license points, there are several ways, including taking a state-approved traffic school course.

Getting a Handicapped Parking Ticket is a Serious Offense in Most States

Most states view handicapped parking violations among the most serious types of traffic tickets and give harsh penalties. Fines for getting a handicapped parking ticket typically range from $250 to $450, in addition to the license points you may receive with your traffic ticket.

When and How to Fight a Handicapped Parking Ticket

If you have received a handicapped parking ticket and you have a valid parking permit, simply request that the traffic ticket be dismissed by completing the Affidavit of Compliance that came with the ticket and send it to the county parking enforcement offices. If you have no permit, you will need to use the following defenses in order to fight a handicapped parking ticket and possibly avoid the penalty:

  • Indicate the lack of proper signage
  • Prove the handicapped space is redundant
  • Show that you were not parked in a prohibited spot

Consider a State Approved Traffic School Course for a Reduction of License Points

If you have received a handicapped parking ticket, consider an accredited state-approved traffic school course for a possible reduction of license points and auto insurance rates. Most states offer a reduction in license points and possible fines once a driver has completed a defensive driving class. Register online here today to get started!

If you require glasses while driving then wear them. Driving without corrective lenses can result in injury to yourself and others. If your driver’s license includes a corrective lenses restriction, you have to wear your glasses when driving. Being caught driving without glasses is a serious offense in nearly every state.

What Happens if You Get Caught Driving Without Your Glasses?

Driving without glasses results in a traffic ticket or an even more severe traffic penalty. You may face the following penalties for driving without glasses:

  • North Carolina – Same as driving without a license (up to $500 fine)
  • Florida – Driving without glasses is a moving violation and a second-degree misdemeanor (up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine)
  • Texas – A restriction code violation with a fine of over $200 fine

What is a Corrective Lenses Restriction?

A corrective lenses restriction is a notation on the driver’s license. In New York State, the restriction requires the driver to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses when driving. The words “corrective lenses” is printed on the front of the license and some states include further information on the back of the license. Defensive driving school is designed to help drivers learn to predict and anticipate what others drivers may do. If a driver is not wearing their glasses you may have to react more quickly and make up for their inability to see.

Can You Get a Driver’s License if You Are Blind in One Eye?

Although driving restrictions vary from state to state, it is against federal law to prohibit people who are blind in one eye from securing a driver’s license. As long as the individual can pass the same tests administered to everyone else, they are able to get a drivers license. Some states do not allow people with so-called monocular vision to drive at night. Be sure to do your research at your local DMV to determine if you qualify.

Most states have seatbelt laws, however, they will vary from state to state. If you live in or often drive in New York state it would behoove you to become familiar with NYS seatbelt law.  Failure to obey the New York seatbelt law can result in tickets, accumulated points on license. After you have read through this post take a look at our post on the importance of seatbelt laws

NY Seat Belt Law Requirements

The law in New York State requires that all passengers in the front seat wear seat belts. In addition, children under the age of 16 are required to wear seat belts when they are in the front seat and the back seat. Children under the age of four are required to be secured in child safety seats while riding. All children must ride in child restraint systems until the age of eight.

Seat Belt Violation Penalties in NY

The penalty for a seat belt or child safety seat violation in NYS is a fine of up to $50. If the seat belt violation NYC involves a person under the age of 16, the driver may receive a fine of $100. Drivers may receive three driver violation points on their NY driving license if found guilty.  Excessive point accumulations on a NY driver’s license can result in significant fines as well as loss of license and an increase in auto insurance rates. You can mitigate the damage by enrolling in driving school.

Enroll in a New York Defensive Driving Course

The Point & Insurance Reduction Program, aka PIRP, in NYS was created to help refresh driving knowledge. By offering safety tips, teaching defensive driving techniques, and reviewing traffic laws this is easily accomplished. Those who complete a New York defensive driving course may be eligible for a four-point reduction on your NYS driving record. Attending defensive driving school offers a minimum 10% reduction in your automobile insurance premiums. This is for every year for three consecutive years. If you have an NYS seatbelt violation, taking an online defensive driving school class is definitely a smart choice.

Why Speeding Tickets are so Expensive in California

California speeding ticket cost is not cheap even when just considering the fines. Adding in the cost of increased insurance rates makes the cost of a speeding ticket in California staggering. The best way to avoid higher insurance rates is to attend California traffic school.

Over the past 10 years, the costs have been significantly on the rise, but not due to base fines.  Base fines have stayed quite steady over the past 20 years.

The additional penalty assessments, however, such as emergency medical services and court construction assessments, are just two of the culprits contributing to the increasing traffic ticket cost for California drivers.  The compilation of all additional assessments has caused California speeding ticket costs to nearly quadruple since 1993 which has created a lot of outrage within the California public.

In spite of public protest over these assessments, they are most likely here to stay.  Why?  Revenue generated from California traffic tickets is estimated to be approximately $500 million per year.

How to Make Sure You Aren’t Paying Too Much

Your auto insurance rates may also go up after you receive a speeding ticket. If you are not eligible to take traffic school, then your insurance rates will definitely be in jeopardy. It is really important to know how your insurance plan is affected by your driving record. Check your plan to make sure you are paying the lowest rate for your personal circumstances. It is a cost that you can look into and monitor.

How to Figure out How much your Speeding Ticket will Cost

The fines for California traffic tickets are tricky to calculate because of all of the state and county penalties and assessments that are added to the base fine. As a result, a speeding ticket could actually end up costing you between 4 and 7 times the amount of the base fine.

For example, California traffic tickets issued to Cali drivers for speeding at 15 MPH over the posted speed limit have soared to $360, but the base fine for this type of citation is a mere $35.

Total Bail Amount on a speeding ticket in California consists of the following:

Base Fine

Getting a speeding ticket in California can be quite costly. Following are the base fines for California

California Speeding Ticket Cost Chart

Avoid Getting a Speeding Ticket

Of course, the best way to handle speeding tickets is to avoid getting them. Plus, there will be no need to calculate how much it will cost you and no high ticket fines to pay. Learn about the ONE WAY to avoid higher insurance rates after a traffic ticket.

CT speeding ticket

Getting a speeding ticket in CT can be serious and expensive. If you don’t live there, the costs and requirements may be different from where you come from. If you do live in Connecticut, you still may not be fully clear on the laws and penalties there. The best choice is to avoid speeding fines and tickets, but if you can’t do that the next best choice is to be aware, so you know what to expect. The current CT speeding laws are all available to everyone, so you can look at the fines for every infraction. Here are some of the most important things to know about speeding penalties in Connecticut.

What Constitutes Speeding in Connecticut?

A CT traffic ticket can be issued for speeding any time your vehicle is exceeding the posted legal limit. For most people, though, driving a couple of miles per hour over the speed limit is not enough for an officer to pull them over and cite them. They can, but they generally don’t. That’s often because speedometers have a margin of error and proving speeding for one or two miles per hour over the posted limit is difficult. Anyone driving well over the speed limit, though, risks a ticket for the offense and an expensive fine, as well as other types of costs.

Moving Too Fast Can Also Mean Reckless Driving

If you’re driving more than 15 mph over the speed limit, that’s considered a serious offense that can constitute reckless driving. If you’re driving 20 mph over the speed limit, that’s automatically also reckless driving. Getting a ticket for speeding along with driving recklessly can be much more significant than a simple speeding ticket. Two of these serious offenses within three years can mean a 60-day license suspension, and three offenses in the same period of time is a 120-day license suspension. These more serious tickets can cost more money than a standard speeding ticket, as well.

Speeding Fines Can Be Very Expensive

Across the state of Connecticut, the speeding ticket cost can be relatively uniform. Near the bottom right of the ticket, there is an area that says, “amount due.” How much you were speeding and whether there were any extenuating circumstances, such as reckless driving or a DUI, can all affect the cost of the ticket. Additionally, there are court costs and fines that can be imposed. While these are the same throughout the state, it’s important to realize that they will be a part of the total cost if you choose to go to court over the infraction.

Taking Care of a Ticket Quickly is Important

Having the option to pay your ticket online shows that CT courts understand that people are busy and may just want to take care of their ticket and move on. Not everyone is going to go to court and fight a ticket. Sometimes they are involved in work and other activities, and the ticket isn’t a priority to them. Other times they may use the CT ticket lookup to find their ticket and they recognize that they are guilty of the infraction. If they’ve been to court and found guilty, they can also pay their ticket online.

There’s a set time to pay a ticket, and there are also some special categories to be aware of when it comes to the cost of a ticket. Being under age 24, having a CDL, or having previous tickets or other driving infractions on your record can all affect what happens to you after you receive a Connecticut speeding ticket.

va speeding ticket defensive driving
The state of Virginia is very serious about maintaining safe speeds on the road. As anyone who travels any part of I-95 or I-64 on a regular basis knows, those arteries are perpetually under construction, clogged with traffic, or both and as Virginia’s population of those who have not yet taken a defensive driving course grows, every road has more cars on it than it did in the recent past. Fines and other penalties for traffic offenses in Virginia can vary widely based on the circumstances, but there is a consistent policy applied statewide that is strict but easy to follow. The primary source document for Virginia traffic ticket fines and other penalties is the Virginia Driver’s Manual, available online. The good news is traffic school, which is readily and cheaply available online, will soften the blow of most Virginia speeding ticket cost.

What to do When You’re Caught Speeding

If you find yourself on the side of the road with flashing lights in your rear-view mirror, in Virginia as most other places, you should know the Officer who pulled you over generally has some latitude to issue you a warning for minor offenses. So, it won’t hurt to be courteous. If you don’t get off with a warning, Virginia speeding ticket fines can be stiff; a base charge of $200 and an additional fine for each mile over the limit are not uncommon.

From there, additional speeding and /or traffic fines will be added depending on the particulars of the driver and situation. If you’re caught speeding in one of Virginia’s many scenic construction zones, that can as much as double your speeding fines, especially when workers are present. Other factors that can increase the cost of your ticket might include lack of a seatbelt for you or your passengers, problems with your car’s safety equipment, and reckless driving.

How Much More Will Your Ticket Be?

Reckless driving in Virginia is defines as 20 miles per hour over the posted limit or 80 miles per hour or more regardless of the limit. Failure to appear in court or pay your fine on time if you plead guilty will cost you more money. Also, it’s beyond the scope of this article, but driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can easily push your Virginia speeding ticket fine into the thousands of dollars before legal fees.

Beyond the monetary cost, it’s important to understand the Virginia demerit system, particularly for Virginia citizens or people who transit Virginia regularly. Depending on the severity, each Virginia traffic ticket is worth 3-8 points. A driver who acquires 12 points in 12 months or 18 points in 24 months will have 90 days to complete Virginia traffic school, also referred to as the Driver Improvement Course. 18 points in 12 months or 24 points in 24 months will result in automatic revocation of a Virginia driver’s license, and a judge can permanently revoke a license for excessive or very rapid accumulation of demerits.

Traffic School to the Rescue

Traffic school can greatly soften the blow of multiple traffic violations by lowering fines and removing demerits. Failure to complete mandatory traffic school can result in a suspended or revoked license, so if you have a lead foot, find a good online traffic school that you can complete easily.

Traffic school is especially important for Virginia drivers under 18 years of age as the standards for license suspension or revocation are much stricter for these high-risk drivers.
Also of note, a Virginia Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) can be suspended or revoked based on much stricter criteria than a regular license, and a CDL can be revoked for a traffic violation committed when not driving for work.

sb traffic school court

California is among the states with the most courthouses in the country. With over 500 courthouses across 58 counties, they are dishing out justice to hard criminals and maintaining the laws of liberty. Without our courts, the injustices of the world and unlawful settlements would run rampant across the state.

At least that’s what we would like to think is happening behind those regal court doors.

Most of the hardball court criminals are involved in traffic-related incidents. Handled inside of a traffic court, these culprits make their persuasive arguments about wrongly being ticketed, which, most of the time, ends the same: a quick dismissal, an inevitable fine payment, and a request to enroll in traffic school. It’s like clockwork.

The cases most often heard in front of a judge pertain to violations of a motor vehicle or traffic law. A few examples of these common hearings deal with speeding, illegal parking, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated or under the influence of a substance (DWI/DUI.) With a plethora of drivers on the California roads (places infamous for driving), you can easily predict the sheer volume of court visits. In case you can’t, it’s an enormous amount of cases seen daily.

Between 2015 to 2016 alone, there were roughly 4 million traffic-related misdemeanors and infractions filed in CA courts. You can imagine how many people walked through those court doors. With so many people attending court because of the traffic, which courts pump out the most cases in California?

San Francisco Hall of Justice

If you’ve ever driven through San Francisco, you understand why there are so many traffic violation related cases for the city. The San Francisco Hall of Justice is the primary court used to handle traffic-related crimes. Therefore, it gets the bulk of the myriad of violators. If you thought the roads in San Francisco were bumpy, the traffic cases are worse.

Glendale Courthouse

Glendale is located just northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. But, directly north of Los Angeles in the amount of traffic court cases heard. The seemingly docile city is bursting with drivers who commit traffic violations. As a result, the Glendale Courthouse sees an abundance of testifying citizens every day.

Santa Barbara Superior Court

The Santa Barbara Superior Court will get flooded with traffic violators willing to take their chance contesting a ticket in court, especially from the Santa Maria area. The smaller city may not have a lot of residents compared to other areas on this list, but they have just as many speeders. When those guys get busted, they all get funneled through Santa Barbara.

Alameda County Berkeley Courthouse

South of Oakland and east of San Francisco is the wonderful town of Berkeley. It’s most famously known for its prestigious university and beautiful bay location. The campus brings thousands of genius minds, inspiring artists, and reckless drivers inside court doors to duke it out with a traffic judge. It could also just be the law students trying to get their reps in traffic court before they represent a client in the real world.

West Covina Superior Courthouse

The West Covina Superior Courthouse is no stranger to the onslaught of traffic violation disputes. At times, this space could seem like a revolving door of people addressing the obvious guiltiness of their tickets and trying to squeeze out of a fine payment. No matter how many people make it through the doors of this court, only a lucky few will escape it without payment.

Procrastination has its benefits, right? Not just penalty fees?

We’ve all been there—four years into a PhD program, realizing our dissertation is due tomorrow and we haven’t started it yet. Then to our surprise, we’re praised with unfairly high marks, further ingraining a pernicious lifestyle of running behind that seems to do us no wrong, never learning that it’s “egregiously disrespectful” to show up “fashionably late” to funerals.

But I can ask for my family’s forgiveness. That’s easy. What’s not so easy is getting a traffic ticket and asking the state of New York to waive the late fees. Best protection against that? A NYS defensive driving course. Save on insurance, avoid the penalties, and avoid the hassle of getting in touch with bureaucrats about your traffic ticket. Because quite honestly, I don’t know how to contact “The State of New York” about a ticket. Do I call 911? Write my senator? Does Ticketmaster deal with that or am I completely misunderstanding the name of that company?

*EDIT: I checked all of these. None of them are right. Do not call 911 about a traffic ticket*

But I digress. Unless your uncle’s a Rockstar attorney willing to fight your ticket for free, it’s best to get rid of the ticket right away. And by that, I mean pay it. Don’t rip it up or burn it. Turns out the police keep records of those things if you go to the station and ask them to “prove it.” Doing nothing about a speeding ticket is a bad move. Left unpaid or uncontested, depending on the citation, your fine could double after being just one day overdue (typically over 30 days). And if you fail to respond for too long, your license will be suspended, during which, if pulled over while driving, you will be arrested and could be charged with a felony, fined up to $5,000, and have your vehicle confiscated.

So, moving forward, consider taking a course in defensive driving so you have the skills and knowledge to never deal with traffic violations again. If you’re a terrible procrastinator, make this the one thing you do punctually. With how hefty NYS tickets are, it’s worth your time. I mean, if you can muster the funds together for a NYS ticket, especially with late fees attached to it, you might as well be day trading Fortune 500 stocks like candy on the playground, you thrifty genius.

Don’t be like me. Learn how to drive safely and legally on the road. If not to avoid a ticket, then to keep the Empire State’s beautiful roads safer for your fellow drivers. If you have a traffic ticket, find a way to contest it, or pay it on time. Don’t let the late fees stack up, thinking it’ll go away or the state will forget. And don’t lose the money you had to pay for the ticket by gambling on a cryptocurrency your friend made and named after himself. I can’t tell you how many times I insisted that the people of the future are never going to refer to money as JoshCoin, but here I am, owner of 72% of the total amount of JoshCoin, worth almost nothing, but just enough to pay for a defensive driving course through Improv Traffic School.

But most importantly, learn where procrastination works to your advantage and where it hurts you most. Maybe it works to get a dissertation done on time after putting it off for four years, or maybe its sloppy, last-minute execution and completely fabricated conclusions detrimentally alter the approach to preserving endangered sea life in the South Pacific, completely discrediting you and barring your involvement from the entire scientific community. That’s up to you to decide.

And hopefully, you’ll decide not to put off the cheap, easy, fun, and award-winning course that will teach you everything you need to be safe and ticket-free on the roads of New York.

Receiving a traffic citation will eventually happen to most people in their lifetime. Whether you were speeding in a construction zone or texting while driving, chances are you will find yourself pulled off on the side of the road with a ticket. Some people might accept their fate to their own dismay, but, if you have the gusto to do so, you might want to challenge the traffic ticket.

Nothing comes easy in life, except for conducting the best defensive driving NY will ever see. That’s the case when it comes to your traffic ticket too. You’ll be facing an uphill battle, so you better go in armored and prepared.

But, what are the chances of winning traffic ticket cases in NY traffic court? The answer is simple. That’s why we’re walking you through your chances of winning in traffic court against the law.

Chances Are You’ll Lose

If you’re hoping to sweep that costly ticket expense under the rug by taking it to court, you might want to reconsider your financial plan. The chances are, you’ll lose your case. Especially if you go in unprepared and in a huff. There are other ways to compensate for the ticket price, such as being a defensive driver. However, there are other ways to increase your chances of winning the court’s favor.

Hire an Attorney

You could hire an attorney to represent you in court to dispel the traffic ticket charges. Of course, there’s no guarantee that this will work, and, if it doesn’t, you could be paying for court charges, attorney charges, and the original ticket cost. You’ll increase your chances of winning, but you’ll also increase your payments.

Hope the Officer Doesn’t Show Up

Another option you might have, albeit a little calculated, is to hope the officer doesn’t show up to the court case. The court will side in your favor if the officer does not show. Which means, if you somehow manage to show up to the trial by yourself, you will win. One way is to hope that the case will take place during the officer’s vacation time or require them to travel a long distance. This has a very small chance of happening, therefore your chances of winning are still, basically, zero.

Win the Lottery

One idea that will offset the expenses of the traffic ticket is by winning the lottery. In fact, you might have a higher chance of winning the lottery than winning your court case. If you strike it rich, not only will be able to pay the ticket, but you’ll have plenty of money left over to buy the entire courthouse. Not really – you don’t actually have a higher chance of winning the lottery. It’s just a metaphor to describe how you probably won’t win your court case.

Less Stress and Save Money by Paying the Ticket

Finally, you could always just pay the ticket. We know, that sounds too simple. However, challenging the court will only mean higher costs. The money will pile up, and you could find yourself at a greater loss.

In these situations, it’s always better to cut your losses. Unless you were able to prove that you weren’t violating the traffic laws, you could consider that money lost. There are other ways you could reduce your overall expenses. Some of which are enrolling in a traffic school to prevent your annual insurance rates from increasing. Another is just being a defensive, safe driver.
