Virginia law requires that auto insurance companies give a premium rate discount to drivers age 55 and older who successfully complete an Experienced Driver Course.
Yes, we are approved by the VA DMV.
Virginia law allows insurance companies to determine the discount percentage, but it typically ranges from 5% up to 15% and usually for three years.
Virginia law requires that insurance companies give a discount to drivers age 55 and older who successfully complete an Experienced Driver Course. There are relatively few requirements for qualifying for an experienced driver discount. In general, you will qualify if all of the following apply:
- You are 55 years of age or older
- You have confirmed with your auto insurance company that they provide a premium rate reduction for taking an approved Experienced Driver (Driver Improvement) Course.
- You have a good driving record. Insurance companies can refuse to give you the experienced driver discount if you have a poor driving record.
Per VA state regulations, you must spend a minimum of 8 hours in the course, up to 4 hours per day.
The discount is typically good for three years. We recommend that you confirm the savings and length of the discount with your agent before taking the course.
Once you complete the course you can print your completion certificate and you will submit it to your insurance company to activate the discount.
You can finish the course in two sittings, 4 hours each. Or you can log off and back on as often as you wish.

We believe in thinking differently. We believe in challenging the status quo. We had an idea 25 years ago that changed the driving industry forever. The notion was simple: the more you enjoy learning, the more you'll remember. Over four million students and several effectiveness studies later, we're proud to say that we were right.

These are the proven brain-training techniques used to power the IMPROV® RecallBOOST platform. Learners receive focused, highly-targeted information in short, hard-hitting, and engaging bursts, making the given learning objectives stick.
