There are no other fees for our online driver education course. Next steps include doing 8 hours of driving time with a certified local instructor, then an additional 50 hours with a parent, guardian, or custodian (with 10 of them being at night). Yes, you can! If under age 16, drivers must have a parent, guardian or licensed driving instructor in the passenger seat when driving.
If the driver is age 16 or older, driving with any validly licensed driver over the age of 21 in the passenger seat is permitted. During the time from midnight to 6 a.m., a parent/guardian/custodian must accompany the driver.
You can schedule your driver exam at a nearby BMV location online via the BMV website.
The BMV requires that you complete the course as a requirement to obtain your full license. However, you can finish our online driver education course at your own pace, and there are no due dates.
We want to emphasize that other states have different qualifications. Driving students in other territories have limitations on when they can complete their classes. We’d like to clarify that so you’re prepared in case you suddenly need to move and have to be a driver in a different state. For more information on another territory, you can visit those FAQs on our website. We know that our students are busy with their grade schools and jobs, so we let them take their time at their convenience. Our classes can do that because Utah doesn’t have laws restricting the hours or days for completion.
You can schedule a road test if you already have your learner permit, are confident with your capabilities, and all requirements are met. To schedule a driving test, the applicant must present their temporary instruction permit identification card (TIPIC), and if under age 18, the applicant must present a driver education certificate. Applicants also must provide a vehicle in good condition for testing. An inspection will be performed before the test begins.
