Does the state of Texas endorse IMPROV'S Texas defensive driving course?

The state of Texas has approved this defensive driving course. Specifically, the TX Dept. of Licensing and Regulation has approved it. Every traffic court in the state will accept it in order to help to dismiss a traffic ticket and prevent the ensuing hike in your insurance premium. How will you I know if I am eligible for participation in the defensive driving course?

In order to be eligible for the course, you must be in possession of an unexpired non-commercial Texas driver license or permit, have admitted your guilt or signed paperwork to show that you are not objecting to the citation and have not had a traffic ticket dismissed within the past year. If you have a citation for speeding in excess of 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, you will not be eligible to participate in the course. Also, CDL license holders are not eligible for the benefits involved with ticket dismissals, including dismissal by way of participation in the defensive driving course.

Is the defensive driving course the same as traffic school?

The two are not the same. Driver safety courses are referred to by a number of monikers, depending on one's location. In Texas, these courses are commonly referred to with a variety of terms including defensive driving, driving safety school, traffic school and driving school.

Will I be required to complete the online defensive driving course all at once or will I be allowed to pause it and resume it later on?

This course is provided at any hour of the day on any day of the week. Participants will be able to log out and log back in at any time desired. No matter where you pause the course, it will save your progress and start back up at that point when you resume your work.

Am I required to finish the course within a certain amount of time?

Since the defensive driving Texas course is offered online, you can complete it at your own pace. The only time requirement is that you finish the course within 3 months of the day that you register for it.

When will I receive my certificate to prove that I completed the course?

The Certificate of Completion can be downloaded from your account and printed within 30 minutes of passing the final quiz. You can then submit the certificate to your court and to your insurance company if you wish.

Will the defensive driving course allow me to obtain an insurance discount?

Many auto insurance companies offer discounts between 1 percent and 10 percent for the successful completion of the defensive driving course. This discount usually extends for 3 years in regards to the liability section of your premium. All you have to do is provide your insurer with written proof that you have successfully completed the defensive driving Texas course.

Will a copy of my driving history be required?

Anyone who is interested in taking the defensive driving course in an effort to get a traffic ticket dismissed should have been notified by the court as to whether a copy of the driving record is necessary. If you don't know whether you need to provide a certified driving record copy, reach out to the court and ask. We offer all participants the option of ordering a 3A certified driving record copy at the time of the course's registration period and at the course's culmination point as well.
